Paris Airport

Comprehensive guide to Paris Airport area tours

The city of Paris has 3 major airports offering numerous flights in and out of the country. The main international airport in France is the Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG Airport), also known locally as the Roissy Airport, located in Paris. Tourists who fly down to Paris, France already know that it is a huge and bustling structure that is always busy and moving. Named after the leader of Free French Forces Charles de Gaulle, the aiport and the surrounding area falls within the portions of many communes including the Roissy area that lies 25 kms north-east of the city of Paris.
The Charles de Gaulle Airport has been the #1 airport with regards to aircraft activities in Europe, leaving behind Frankfurt International Airport, and Heathrow. Traveling to the CDG is easy as the airport is well-connected with the RER urban railway network. This railway network provides services that lead into the city's center. The frequency of trains is 3-4 times per hour. The airport is also connected with the high-speed rail TGV network. Moreover, the SNCF French Rail also runs direct TGV rail services to many French train stations from the Charles de Gaulle Airport, including Angers, Avignon, Bordeaux, Dijon, Grenoble, Le Mans, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Nîmes, Poitiers, Rennes, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Tours, and Valence.

As recently as in June 2007, the CDG was given a new departure hall – the Galerie Parisienne. Today, this departure hall is the largest in France and can handle the big aircraft carriers such as the A380s.

Reaching the Charles de Gaulle airport is fairly easy with several modes of transport available for tourists including taxis, rental cars, and trains. In order to reach the CDG from Paris, you’ll take the A1 via Porte de la Chapelle. On the other hand, you can even take the A3 via Porte de Bagnolet, and take the A1 as it meets the A3 and simply follow the signs for the airport. Also, car rental agencies such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt offer care rental services at the airport.

The CDG Airport offers plenty of facilities including:

1.    Money: bureaux de change and more than one bank branch and ATM is available at all three terminals.
2.    Post offices: located in terminals 1 and 2.
3.    Wireless Internet access: easily available as are mobile phone rental services.
